The DC Universe has a new symbol of hope, and it’s flying high at the global box office. David Corenswet’s portrayal of Clark Kent in Superman, directed by James Gunn, is proving to be a game-changer for the franchise. With impressive numbers coming in from both domestic and international markets, the film is well on its way to crossing the $400 million mark worldwide.

In North America, Superman has already claimed the #1 spot and is set to break past the $200 million barrier. Overseas, the movie raked in a strong $11 million on its second Friday, pushing its international total to $142.8 million across 78 countries. Combined with its North American earnings of $194.4 million, the film’s worldwide total currently stands at a whopping $337.2 million.

Critics and audiences alike are praising the film. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts an 83% critics score and a glowing 92% audience rating. Rather than rehashing Superman’s origin story, this version dives deeper into Clark Kent’s inner conflict with his Kryptonian identity. The public’s distrust opens the door for Lex Luthor to make his move — and the tension keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

In addition to the compelling storyline and powerful performances from David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, one unexpected character has stolen the spotlight — Krypto, Superman’s CGI dog. The fan-favourite canine has not only added charm to the film but also inspired a rise in dog adoptions.

With momentum building, Superman is on track to overtake Captain America: Brave New World, which earned $415.1 million globally and currently ranks as the seventh highest-grossing Hollywood movie of 2025. There’s a strong chance it could leap past that figure by the end of its second weekend.

At the very least, it’s guaranteed to outperform Thunderbolts, which earned $382.08 million worldwide. Doing so would cement Superman as the eighth highest-grossing Hollywood film of the year, climbing up from its current #10 spot.

Released on July 11, Superman is shaping up to be the comeback DC fans have been waiting for. And with its powerful mix of action, heart, and spectacle, the new Man of Steel is flying toward a box office legacy of his own.
