Bad news for fans of Citadel: Honey Bunny — the Indian spin-off of the international spy thriller Citadel has officially been shelved. Amazon Prime Video has decided not to move forward with another season of the Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu-led show. Alongside it, the Italian spin-off Citadel: Diana, which premiered in October 2024, has also been discontinued.

Honey Bunny dropped in November 2024 and was set across two timelines — early 1990s India and a more futuristic era. The series followed elite agents Honey and Bunny, who operated under the Citadel spy agency, taking on high-risk missions and navigating betrayals, secrets, and action-packed chaos. Directed by the powerhouse duo Raj & DK and co-written by Sita R. Menon, the show had all the makings of a long-running spy franchise.

While not a perfect show, Honey Bunny scored a respectable 75% on Rotten Tomatoes — significantly better than the original Citadel series, which had an underwhelming 51%. In fact, many Indian fans found Honey Bunny more entertaining than the global version.

With Raj & DK’s track record (The Family Man, Farzi, Go Goa Gone) and the magnetic presence of Kay Kay Menon as the villain, the foundation for a gripping second season was already laid. In addition to the global popularity, Honey Bunny was reportedly Prime Video’s most-watched series worldwide during its release weekend, and the cancellation feels like a missed opportunity.

However, all hope isn’t lost. According to Times of India, the characters from Honey Bunny might make a comeback — not in their own show, but as part of Citadel Season 2. Whether through flashbacks or an older version of Honey and Bunny, fans might still get to see Varun and Samantha reprise their roles in the main series, which is expected to drop in mid-2026.

It’s clear that Honey Bunny had potential. Maybe it couldn’t live up to the giant expectations set by Prime Video, but in the cutthroat world of OTT content, sometimes even good isn’t good enough. Still, a crossover with the main series might just give the Honey Bunny universe the closure — or continuation it deserves.
