Designer Sohaya Misra of Chola, Gaurav Khanijo of Khanijo and Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty of Huemn presented their latest sustainable collection at the second edition of the All About India show by Rise Worldwide during the phygital FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week.

Breaking the conventional norms, designer labels Chola, Huemn and Khanijo came together, showcasing the process and techniques for creating sustainable fashion for the people and the planet and the one that also makes for an ethical style statement.

Chola presented its collection titled ‘Human Nature’, in neutral shades of black and white with free size silhouettes. The ethical sourcing of fabrics is done from various states around India — organic cotton from Pondicherry, post-consumer waste recycled cotton from Tirupur, handwoven khadi from West Bengal, muls from Bhopal and linens from various states of India and uses recycled and upcycled or biodegradable fabrics for pockets or collars of garments that are all made in-house.

Their line consisted of easy separates, detachable hoods and sleeves along with mix and match options, striped robes, wide flowing pants, high collared blouses, hoodies and the high-low hemline for the tunic, Pheran-style tunic, dresses with circular hemlines and boxy shoulders.

On the other hand, Huemn launched a unisex collection named “Huemn 21” that is inspired by the current global emotions. The collection is made in a variety of 100 per cent cotton and silk homegrown fabrics.

Anti-fit and baggy silhouettes have contributed to the basics, alongside shirts with giant printed patch pockets, denim biker’s jackets, pleated knit skirt and over-sized sweater dress. The 2-tone denim/knit pants with frayed edges and a matching sweatshirt with 3D embroidery is a masterpiece. The 3D placement embroidery technique is used in the garments with surface texturing using traditional embroidery.

Designer Khanijo’s Autumn/Winter 21 collection was a unisex line as well, made using natural and pure fabrics like linen, cotton Khadi and silk and bamboo, hemp and Tencel for the woven fabrics with hand embroidery.

The retro collection has oversized silhouettes in rainbow hues and textures with prints, embroidery and weaves, featuring coats with shoulder embellishments worn with a blouse with circular pockets and trousers, and corduroy sets. The embroidered jacket with matching culottes, teamed with a frayed detailed blouse, while an orange piped asymmetric jacket and trouser combo is a season must. Men’s wear included a knee-length coat with frayed shoulder detailing, a casual brown jacket, and mandarin collar kurta, a buttonless embroidered denim jacket, as well as other options such as printed shirts with cropped pants.
