Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak is a couple of days away from hitting the theatres and the entire team is busy promoting the emotional drama. Meanwhile, the movie has been grabbing headlines for all the positive and negative reasons. While Deepika Padukone support towards JNU students created controversies for her movie, the makers of Chhapaak was accused of stealing the plot by Rakesh Bharti.

Recently, a father-son duo claimed that the makers of Chhapaak have stolen their idea for the movie and filed a copyright violation against the team. Rakesh Bharti and his son claimed that they acquired the rights to bring the story of acid attack survivor and registered a title of the movie as ‘Black Day’ four years ago. They also alleged that Rakesh Bharti shared a copy of his script with the makers of Chhapaak before they came up with the separate movie.

Following the claim, director of Chhapaak, Meghna Gulzar, opened up on the controversy and stated that copyright cannot be claimed on true events and experiences. The filmmaker requested the dismissal of the lawsuit filed by Rakesh Bharti and his son and filed an affidavit at the Bombay High Court. The affidavit claims that the lawsuit filed by the father-son duo is ‘wholly misconceived, frivolous, legally untenable and unmeritorious.’

Talking about the movie, Chhapaak revolves around the life experiences of an acid attack survivor and stars Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in prominent characters. Helmed by Meghna Gulzar, the trailer and songs received a great response from the audiences and the movie is slated to release on 10th of January.
