Indian author Chetan Bhagat is undoubtedly one of the most famous writers in the country and has produced a number of memorable novels. His 2016 release ‘One Indian Girl’ went on to break numerous records with its pre-booking and was the leading title on pre-orders at Amazon India since its inception in 2013. Years after the success of the novel, Sony Pictures International Productions has acquired movie adaptation rights from the author.

Confirming the deal, Chetan Bhagat took to his social media handle and wrote, “Delighted to share that Sony Pictures International Productions has acquired the film adaptation rights to my novel ‘One Indian Girl’!” as he asked for opinions on the cast of the movie. “As the film market continues to boom in India, we’re continuously looking for exciting content that stands out from both a creative and cultural perspective, and we’re thrilled to adapt and produce Chetan Bhagat’s book for the big screen,” said Shebnem Askin, Co-Head of Sony Pictures International Productions.

Chetan Bhagat’s best-seller book revolves around an Indian girl who is intelligent and successful but finds it difficult to find love. The novel managed to get the highest number of pre-bookings for the hype and has sold over 10 million copies so far. Bhagat is cited by The New York Times as “the biggest selling author in India’s history”. His previous film adaptations have created history at the Indian box office and created a new trend in Bollywood to adapt novels.
