After the epic fantasy television series, Game of Thrones, concluded, HBO came up with a miniseries based on a real-life tragedy, Chernobyl. The miniseries depicts the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, which is the biggest nuclear accident ever happened, and its aftermath. Chernobyl gained popularity in no time and is trending over streaming platforms. However, the popularity over social media networks led to an unexpected trend.

After the success of the historical drama, the disaster site attracted tourists’ footfalls. Some of the tourists uploaded provocative pictures on social media with the disaster site in the backdrop. Some of the pictures were heavily criticised and now the creator and writer of the series, Craig Mazin, has urged the tourists to respect the disaster sites.

In the tweet, he wrote, “It’s wonderful that #ChernobylHBO has inspired a wave of tourism to the Zone of Exclusion. But yes, I’ve seen the photos going around. If you visit, please remember that a terrible tragedy occurred there. Comport yourselves with respect for all who suffered and sacrificed.”

Directed by Johan Renck, the miniseries stars Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard, and Emily Watson in the prominent characters.
