Emraan Hashmi fans have long wished to relive his early 2000s era on the big screen. Now, their hopes may soon turn into reality as speculation builds around the re-release of his 2007 cult classic Awarapan. But can this action-packed crime drama recover its budget in its second run?
Directed by Mohit Suri and produced under Vishesh Films, Awarapan originally hit theaters on June 29, 2007. Starring Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, and Ashutosh Rana, the film is celebrated for its gripping storyline, intense action sequences, and unforgettable soundtrack. Despite being one of Emraan’s most acclaimed performances, Awarapan failed commercially, earning ₹7.75 crore against a budget of ₹18 crore.
Now, due to popular demand, Awarapan is rumored to be making a theatrical comeback. Emraan recently fueled speculation with a cryptic social media post featuring a white pigeon and a cage, set to the haunting track Toh Phir Aao. While an official announcement is still awaited, fans are already excited to see this cult favorite return to cinemas.
For the film to break even in its re-release, it would need to earn ₹10.25 crore in India. However, its success will depend on whether it gets a solo release or faces competition from new films. If it clashes with Salman Khan’s Sikandar around Eid, the challenge will be even greater.
With its devoted fan following, nostalgic appeal, and timeless music, Awarapan has a strong chance to rewrite its box office fate.
