Indian Film industry is one of the biggest films producing fraternity in the world that produces films of multiple genres and languages, capturing the essence of life in them.

There are some movies which has marked its significance in the pages of history with convincing emotions and strong performances by the artists. These movies have defied the notion of time by claiming to be timeless and passionate forever.

We have prepared a list of such classics that one should absolutely watch once in their lifetime.

Mughal-e-azam

The magnum opus of K Asif’s Mughal-e-Azam is one of the most phenomenal and extravagant movies Indian film industry ever produced at that time. The movie intricately shows the passionate love and romance of Prince Salim and beautiful Anarkali, a courtesan in his court and a war waged against his own father for his love.

The movie had grandiose sets, designed costumes and the thunderous performances by the cast made this movie a masterpiece of all time.

Pyaasa

Pyaasa is the narration of a man searching compassion in the cold cynicism of post-independence Indian society. Vijay played by Guru Dutt is an unpublished poet, disowned by his own family and scorned by the society.

After befriending a prostitute who gave him  shelter, he went into hibernation and the world thought he was dead. His work became lionized making him an overnight sensation. This movie of Guru Dutt is considered as a pioneer of Indian cinema and an epitome of classic movies.

Pakeezah

In the magnificence of Lucknow, Pakeezah played by Meena Kumari is a concubine and artist who longs to abandon her courtesan life when she crosses path with a stranger in train whom she falls in love with.

Twirling emotions and dream-like cinematography, Pakeezah is a standout movie at any point made. Directed by Kamal Amrohi who himself wrote the script of the movie, viably transports the audience into an insightful time of former convention and extravagance. The classical depiction of a court dancer Pakeezah dares to question the society who forbids a courtesan from having a normal life and falling in love.

Guide

Adapted from the novel Of RK Narayan with same title Guide is a story of a degenerated businessman turned into a profound Guide after a misconception that prompts his veneration by a village attacked by drought.

A scandalous romantic tale subsides away from plain sight as director Vijay Anand intensely deconstructs social taboos, from infidelity and non-conventional jobs to religious misrepresentation.

Mother India

The iconic classic of Mehboob Khan, Mother India is often known as one of the best movie of Indian film industry depicting the stark realities of the socio-economic culture of the nation.

Released post independence the movie has stood the test of time over the years and continues to make the audience dumbstruck with its speechless narrative and acting of Nargis Dutt.
