Renowned Hollywood actor, Ben Affleck, walked out of the highly-anticipated comic-book based live-action superhero movie, The Batman, a while ago but kept his mum when questioned about his reasons which were considered to be personal to him. Recently, the actor went candid about his troubled married life and alcoholism along with his abandoning of Batman.

Ben Affleck played the character of the cape crusader for three DC superhero movies and despite getting criticized for replacing Christian Bale, the actor managed to perfect his portrayal as the Dark Knight. However, when he was supposed to play a stand-alone Batman movie which he was also attached to direct, he opted out of the project and retired as on-screen Batman.

Breaking his silence on the same, Ben Affleck recently opened up on the issues he faced which prompted him to abandon the movie. The actor said, “I showed somebody ‘The Batman’ script. They said, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went through again.” He further added that his troubled married life, his alcoholism and a ‘troubled shoot’ was the reason for him to walk out of The Batman.

After Ben Affleck quitted the project, Matt Reeves carried the responsibility of the director and also penned down his own version of Batman which is to be portrayed by a younger Robert Pattinson. The filmmaker recently released a camera test video of Robert Pattinson trying on to his new Batsuit and the actor received mostly positive responses from the comic book fans.

Talking about his personal life, Ben Affleck mentioned that divorcing Jennifer Garden is one of the biggest regrets of his life. “The biggest regret of my life is this divorce. Shame is really toxic. There is no positive byproduct of shame. It’s just stewing in a toxic, hideous feeling of low self-worth and self-loathing,” he said.
