The cinema industry was the first to be affected by the ongoing pandemic crisis and remains one of the most hit sectors of the country. While the film producers moved to OTT platforms to release their movies, distributers and theatre owners are having a tough time maintaining their expenses. Giving relief and trying to rejuvenate the sector, Akshay Kumar’s latest movie, BellBottom, was released in the theatres.
Featuring Akshay Kumar and Vaani Kapoor in the lead, the spy thriller had a theatrical release on Friday. However, owing to the current restrictions at certain places and the Coronavirus scare, the movie had a rough start at the box office. BellBottom managed to collect Rs. 2.75 crore on its first day of business at the box office and trade experts expect growth on the weekend with the festive on the corner.
The movie is expected to mint 15 crores rupees on its first weekend as Saturday and Sunday will be celebrated as Onam and Rakshabandhan respectively. The movie has also managed to attract positive word of mouth given the long buzz. While the collections are low compared to the other releases of Akshay Kumar but being the first movie to have a theatrical release after the second wave of Coronavirus, the poor collection was predetermined.
While the key markets in the country remain shut including Maharashtra which contributes to around 30% of the total business, BellBottom has been cleared for a release in UAE adding to the collection of the movie. Helmed by Ranjit Tiwari, the movie features Akshay Kumar alongside Lara Dutta, Vaani Kapoor, and Huma Qureshi in the key roles.
