Ayushmann Khurrana has carved a niche for himself with his choice of cinema and even though his last release, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, was a dud at the box office, fans have been eagerly waiting for his next release. The actor had been making headlines for his next comedy-drama, Gulabo Sitabo, which co-stars Amitabh Bachchan and the latest update is that the movie will be released on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime Video.
In wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, theatres are closed for the time uncertain and many filmmakers are inclining towards OTT platforms to release their already completed projects. Recently, Amazon Prime Video acquired the rights of Shoojit Sircar directorial Gulabo Sitabo and the digital release date of the movie has been announced by the video streaming giant. “Gulabo Sitabo is one of the most anticipated films of the year. We are happy to exclusively premiere Gulabo Sitabo on Prime Video. It is the first step in our endeavour to bring superior cinematic experiences to our customer’s doorstep,” said Vijay Subramaniam, Director and Head of Content at Amazon Prime Video.
Ayushmann Khurrana took to his social media handle to announce the release date of his upcoming comedy-drama which will skip the customary theatrical release. The actor wrote, “Advance mein aapko book kar rahe hai! Gulabo Sitabo premieres this June 12 only on @PrimeVideoIN aa jaana fir, first day, first stream karne #GiboSiboOnPrime #WorldPremiereOnPrime (sic)”

The movie will be premiered on the 12th of June exclusively on the Amazon Prime Video platform and will be available in 200 countries and territories worldwide. “I am happy that a global audience will be able to watch our gritty dramedy, and enjoy what the film has in store for them. Gulabo Sitabo is a quirky, light-hearted movie that the audience can enjoy with their families,” said the director of the movie, Shoojit Sircar. “This is the dawn of a new era for Indian entertainment,” he further added.
