American actor and filmmaker, Jason Bateman, has stepped down from directing the upcoming sci-fi thriller, Artemis, featuring Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans after reported creative differences. Bateman was to direct the big feature film for Apple TV+ but he decided to part ways with the production house, These Pictures.
According to a Deadline report, Jason and the studio have decided to reunite for another project in the future if their visions align but for Artemis, These Pictures will be moving forward with another filmmaker to helm the high-budgeted drama. Meanwhile, Johansson is producing the feature project with Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn through their These Pictures production company, which commissioned and developed the script.
The plot of the keenly anticipated feature film has been kept under tight wraps but the initial details suggest that the project is set against the space race. Artemis marks a pivotal moment for Apple TV+, which acquired the rights to the film in a deal reportedly worth $100M.
