Ever since the production venture of Anushka Sharma, Paatal Lok, was announced, the web-series has been making the headlines for the all good and negative reasons. While the digital series has been enjoying a variety of positive reviews from the critics and audiences alike, it is also engulfed into multiple controversies in a short period of time. Earlier, certain Gorkha community groups expressed their disappointment in the movie scenes and alleged causing a racial and sexist stir. Now, a BJP MLA has filed a legal complaint against the producer, Anushka Sharma.
The BJP MLA Nandkishore Gurjar has raised a complaint against the web-series producer, Anushka Sharma, for using his image in a certain scene without his consent. The concerned scene uses images of several BJP leaders including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Nandkishore Gurjar has also accused the makers of portraying Gurjar community in ill-light and associated with malpractices. Gurjar has further demanded to book Anushka Sharma under the National Security Act for causing a communal stir and portraying Sanatan Dharma along with different Hindu agencies in a negative light.
Nandkishore Gurjar also states in his complaint against the actress that the web-series creates differences amongst different castes in India by using casteist slurs indicating that certain castes are of lower stature in the society. He also accused the show of maligning the image of the political party, Bharatiya Janata Party.
Earlier, Gorkha community group, All Arunachal Pradesh Gorkha Youth Association, sought legal action against the makers of Paatal Lok for allegedly normalising racism against Gorkhas. While, another group, Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh, started an online petition against racist remarks made in the digital series and demanded the said scene to be muted as well as adding a disclaimer.
