Actor Anshuman Jha is seen playing the role of a homosexual man in his new film “Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele”. The actor talks about how he had to avoid stereotypes and caricatures that often come along while portraying a gay character.

The actor felt that it was his responsibility while taking up this character to be careful with stereotypes because being a heterosexual man in a homosexual character, he should be just and sensitive towards the portrayal. He didn’t wish to play Veer (his role) in a caricaturish manner.

The role has also come as a challenge to him he also did some research work, and field research as he interacted with people. The actor says that he has some friends in the LGBTQ community as well so that helped him with the insights and he hopes to reflect that to the audience through his performance.

The film which is directed by Harish Vyas is a story of a homosexual boy and a lesbian girl on a road trip that allows them to discover the essence of love in friendship. While Anshuman plays the gay boy, Zareen Khan has taken up the character of the lesbian girl.

Anshuman believes that accepting different voices in society is essential that is the most important part of the story. He recalls director Harish Vyas sharing the script told him that it is a story of a boy, and a girl and a road trip. When the actor questioned more on it, he said that they are soulmates and that boy is gay, and the girl is a lesbian. He explained how the journey, they discover pure love and friendship that they share for each other. The actor says that he was just hooked right there as it was such a unique and surprisingly interesting story and the dimension between the boy and the girl from the LGBTQ community revealed their side of the story, and how they struggle in our society for acceptance.
