Megastar Amitabh Bachchan recently recovered from COVID-19 and started working on his previously committed projects. While the actor brought a new season of the quiz-based reality show, Kaun Banega Crorepati 12, on the small screen, he is in talks with filmmakers for a number of new projects. The latest development suggests that Amitabh maybe joining Apple TV Series Shantaram.
The series helmed by Justin Kurzel was to begin production early this year but due to the ongoing pandemic, it was pushed to the next year. The series is based on the best selling novel of Gregory David Roberts of the same name, Shantaram, and will star the English actor Charlie Hunnam and Radhika Apte in the prominent characters. Charlie also visited India last year to shoot for the series. With Amitabh Bachchan a part of it, the show is likely to get a better traction amongst the Hindi viewers.
Coincidentally, Mira Nair was working on a similar story with Hollywood actor Johnny Depp as the protagonist and Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to a part of it. However, the project was scrapped due to reasons unknown. If the reports are to be believed, Amitabh Bachchan is likely to play the crime lord Khader Khan, a character based on the novel. The 10-episode series will revolve around a drug-addicted Australian bank robber played by Charlie Hunnam who will settle in the Mumbai slums.
While the crew is currently finalizing the locations to carry out the shooting with necessary precautions, the series is likely to hit the floors in January 2021.
