Amber Heard is currently one of the most hated celebrities in the world for the ongoing controversy with ex-husband Johnny Depp. For the unversed, Johnny Depp filed a libel case against tabloid The Sun for calling him a ‘wife-beater’ which was ruled against the Pirates of the Caribbean actor. In December, the actor requested a retrial back and as per the latest report, it has been rejected by the British court.
The justices, James Dingemans and Nicholas Underhill said that the previous court hearing was fair and the trial’s judgement has not been shown any error in approach or mistake of law. Reacting to Johnny’s lost bid to appeal, Amber Heard’s representative released a statement claiming that Johnny’s claims of new evidence are merely a press strategy.
“We are pleased but by no means surprised by the Court’s denial of Johnny Depp’s application of appeal. The evidence presented in the UK case was overwhelming and undeniable. To reiterate, the original verdict was that Mr. Depp committed domestic violence against Amber Heard on no fewer than 12 occasions and she was left in fear of her life,” the statement read.
The controversy has costed both the actors almost equally. While Johnny Depp lost many projects including the next instalment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, Amber Heard is reportedly being forced to exit DCEU’s Aquaman sequel.
