The entertainment industry is one of the most affected sectors of the country after the Coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc in India. While the viral crisis has kept us confined to our homes and practice social distancing, there has been no show at the box office for the last three months. Following the government guidelines, theatres are shut and film producers are seeking digital release for their movies.

Many small, as well as big, budgeted movies are being released over OTT platforms to curb the loss incurred by the filmmakers, renowned director Mahesh Bhatt has decided to join the bandwagon and take the OTT platform route for the release of his next. Starring Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur as the prominent characters, Sadak 2, will not see the traditional theatrical release.

In a recent interview, the filmmaker said that he couldn’t wait for the theatres to reopen and people wouldn’t go out in theatres to watch the movie any soon. “Today, life is more important, I am compelled to come (on digital platform) because I don’t see any light in the near future. This is the best I can do to survive. There are certain things that you do, not out of choice but out of compulsion. This is the only option left. It is a no-brainer,” Bhatt further added.

He also said that the OTT release is temporary until the situation normalizes and theatres reopen for the public, but until then, he would prefer to release his movies over the OTT platform instead of waiting for the current situation to pass. Sadak 2 is a sequel to 1991 romantic drama Sadak starring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt in the leads. The sequel also stars the original cast reprising their characters.
