Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi has been one of the most anticipated movies of the actress and the shooting of the same has been going on for over a year now. The movie was expected to wrap up earlier in 2020 but due to the ongoing pandemic crisis and associated nation-wide lockdown, the production was halted midway.

As per the latest development, Alia Bhatt has resumed the last leg of the shooting with a newly-erected set in the Film City. According to a source close to the production of the movie, Alia Bhatt and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali have been shooting at wee-hours for days and now the shooting has moved to daytime as it inches towards completion. It is expected to wrap up in the upcoming weeks and release on the occasion of Diwali in theatres.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been determined to release the movie on the big screen and therefore, they are waiting for the situation to normalize before the release date announcement. However, the sources inform that he is eying on the Diwali week considering the appeal of the movie.

Featuring Alia Bhatt in and as Gangubai Kathiawadi, the movie is based on the book of Hussain Zaidi, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, about Gangubai, the madam of a brother in Kamathipura. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the biographical crime drama is expected to turn around the career of Alia Bhatt after facing extreme criticism related to nepotism debacle last year.
