Akshay Kumar is one of the most loved and hard-working actors of the Bollywood industry and the Khiladi Kumar is known to deliver back to back hits with merely a gap of months. While the actor is also one of the highest taxpayers of the country, he becomes an easy target on social media websites because of his Canadian citizenship. While Akshay Kumar kept his mum on the matter for years, he recently came out in public about his passport.

In a recent promotional event of his upcoming movie, Good Newwz, co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Kiara Advani in prominent characters, Akshay Kumar was asked about his citizenship and the story behind it. Being a sport that he is known for, Akshay Kumar explained his struggles in the initial stage of his career and said that he thought his career was over in India after delivering 14 consecutive flops.

Akshay stated that it was that time when he applied for Canadian citizenship after his Canadian friend asked him to join him at work there. “I have now applied for the passport. I don’t want to give anyone the chance to question me on it. I am an Indian and it hurts me that I am asked to prove that every time. My wife, my children are Indian. I pay my taxes here and my life is here,” the actor said as he shared his disappointment on proving his love for India.

“I started the process to get a Canadian passport because I felt my career was finished and I won’t get more work here. But my 15th film worked and I never looked back. I never thought of changing my passport,” he added. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar is gearing up for the release of his upcoming comedy-drama, Good Newwz, that is slated to release on the 27th of December.
