After working in a musical comedy film Fanney Khan, it is speculated that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen next in Mani Ratnam’s period drama. This will be a multi-lingual film based on the Tamil novel called ‘Ponniyin Selvan’.

Aishwarya has already worked with the director in the movie Raavan and Guru and this time she is going to thrill her fans, as the actor will be portraying a negative role in the movie. She has played an antagonist in her 2005 film Khakee and her 2006 release Dhoom 2.

The film will be based on the life of Arulmozhi Varman who became the great Chola emperor. Aishwarya will essay the role of Nandini in the film who is the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, who served as the chancellor and treasurer of the Chola kingdom in the novel. Mohan Babu will play Nandini’s husband in the movie.

Aishwarya will play the character of a mysterious, power-hungry woman who manipulates her husband so that she can plan the downfall of the Chola empire. Her character wants the empire destructed because she has been wronged by them.

The film is expected to go on floors by the year-end.
