Payal Rohatgi was arrested by Rajasthan Police from her residence on Sunday morning for her alleged derogatory post on the Nehru and Gandhi family. For the uninitiated, the actress had published posts on her social media handles against the political family in the month of September. Following which, general secretary of the Rajasthan Youth Congress filed a police complaint against Payal Rohatgi in Bundi, Rajasthan.

While the actress appealed for bail, the Bundi Court rejected her bail application saying that the right to freedom of speech under the Indian Constitution is not unlimited. The court on Monday remanded the actress in judicial custody and was sent to jail until December 24.

The actress expressed her anger on her Twitter handle as she wrote, “I am arrested by @PoliceRajasthan
for making a video on #MotilalNehru which I made from taking information from @google. Freedom of Speech is a joke (sic).” Meanwhile, her lawyer claimed that she was booked for serious offences even though she had not committed any serious crime. Her fiance, Sangram Singh, who was also present at the court hearing on Monday, said that her arrest was ‘politically motivated’.
