Indian stockbroker Harshad Mehta became a household name in the ’90s and after decades, he became a household name again with the super success of web series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. The web series received unexpected appreciation and the lead actor Pratik Gandhi became a star overnight. However, the success of Scam 1992 became a roadblock for the Abhishek Bachchan starrer The Big Bull.
Although The Big Bull was announced in 2018, it only went on the floors in the last quarter of 2019. The movie was earlier slated for a 2020 release but the massive success of Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story troubled the makers of the movie. Both the web series and the movie revolves around the life of Harshad Mehta and his connection with the biggest financial frauds in the 1990s. As per the sources, postponing The Big Bull was a feared decision taken by the makers of the movie to avoid comparisons and a possible backlash.
Although the director of the web series, Hansal Mehta, had earlier mentioned that the two projects are made independently and had different sources of the factual story, the fans of the web series are expected to address the Abhishek Bachchan starrer as a duplicate. However, another source closer to the development of the movie states that the movie still lacks some post-production work and the reason for postponing the movie is the same. Earlier, Abhishek Bachchan had contracted Coronavirus which delayed the production activities of his upcoming projects and the makers had to postpone the release.
Talking about The Big Bull, the Kookie Gulati directorial features Abhishek Bachchan essaying the role of Indian stockbroker Harshad Mehta. The biographical crime drama will also star Illeana D’Cruz, Sohum Shah, Nikita Dutta, and Varun Sharma in the key roles.
