While the audience relates more to the content on OTT platforms, which is real-life based, actor Abhishek Bachchan thinks that mainstream cinema will never go out of style.
He believes that the cinema’s way of storytelling, their songs, and the dances will never fade. People will see a different side to it due to the availability of various platforms. The audience will view a variant of it but mainstream cinema will always enjoy its place. He says, “Are protagonists going to be superhuman? That is something that will change.” The actor says that the protagonists of films today cannot be compared to those of older films.
Bachchan thinks that there is a particular trend that flourishes in the film industry but it goes away in a few years. He retrospects that the audience tends to change every seven to 10 years because a new wave of cinema viewers comes in they bring in with them their choices, likes and dislikes, according to which storytelling and other themes are produced.
He goes by saying that in the ’70s and the ’80s era, rebellious love was a big theme where usually the girl or the boy faced non-acceptance from their respective sides. But that changed in the ’90s, where, in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Shah Rukh Khan playing the role of Raj vows to win over Simran’s family. So you cannot generalise cinema. Storytelling will be flexible and adaptable as per the interest of the audience.
Abhishek will next be seen in the Kookie Gulati directorial, The Big Bull. The crime biographical drama was expected to have a theatrical release. However, due to the pandemic, it is going for a digital premiere instead.
