The beloved cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna made its grand return to the big screen on April 25, 2025, hoping to reignite the magic of its original 1994 release. Featuring iconic performances by Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, the film’s re-release was expected to generate nostalgic excitement, but early numbers tell a different story.

As of 8 AM on opening day, the film managed to sell around 5,500 tickets across major national cinema chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis. While that may sound decent, it’s significantly underwhelming compared to other recent re-releases. For context, Sanam Teri Kasam—India’s highest-grossing re-release—sold nearly 67,000 tickets during its advance bookings, and Tumbbad recorded over 21,000.

That puts Andaz Apna Apna at nearly 74% below Tumbbad’s opening, which is surprising for a film with such a massive cult following. Some trade analysts remain optimistic, however, expecting a potential boost in theatre occupancy if positive word-of-mouth starts to build over the weekend.

Originally released in 1994, the comedy-drama directed by Rajkumar Santoshi had an estimated budget of ₹3 crores and ended up earning around ₹5.15 crores. While it did recover costs, it fell short of being classified as a ‘hit’, which requires at least double the return on investment.

Now, nearly three decades later, the film has a chance to rewrite its box office history. But with just ₹85 lakhs more needed to meet the ‘hit’ benchmark, Andaz Apna Apna must gain serious momentum in the days to come.

Also starring Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, and Shakti Kapoor, Andaz Apna Apna has remained a fan favourite over the years for its hilarious one-liners and unforgettable characters. Whether this re-release can live up to the legacy and finally give the film its long-overdue box office glory, only time will tell.
