Karan Johar’s 2001 romantic comedy family drama ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ (K3G) was incredible in many ways be it the telepathic bond between a mother and her son or the stellar star cast of the movie delivering some iconic scenes that have become meme worthy today.

It has been 17 years of this incredibly dramatic journey of Karan’s K3G, but still the characters, dialogs and the scenes are as fresh as it was the day it came out.

One may criticise and make fun of the movie as much as they want, but no one can deny it being our one of the many “guilty pleasures”. In fact, many genuinely love this highly melodramatic movie, after all Indians are all about loving the family and emotional bonds, so is this movie.

To honour the movie we are breaking down some scenes which were highly iconic yet funny at the same time:

Rahul’s Dhasu entry

Shahrukh Khan a.k.a Rahul Raichand’s entry in the Hogwarts University oops in the Raichand Mansion is probably one of the most historic and iconic scenes of Indian cinema no one could ever forget. Nandini Raichand’s (Jaya Bachchan)  telepathy and sensory skills are a topic of jokes and memes ever since, but deny as much as you want, all Mothers swear by that scene. They just know, every freaking time.

Anjali’s “Gamla Nahi Vase”

Anjali’s father said ‘Maafi maangne se koi chota ya bada nahi hota, aur jo maaf kar de uska dil bohot bada hota hai’ and with this line, Anjali almost fixed her mistake of breaking the ‘gamla'(Vase) at Yash Raichand’s (Amitabh Bachchan) birthday party, but darn her clumsiness, she had to goof it up by breaking another antique vase worth may be few lakhs at the Raichands.

Maybe she got carried away by her emotions, but she delivered a great message to the audience ‘Be careful with your moves or you might end up breaking things costing a fortune’.

Laddoo Turns Into Duggu

A young obese Teen Rohan grows into a hot built-up guy with chiseled jaw and abs in his adulthood. He had no clue how he was going to find his brother and reunite his family. But then he had to impress his lady love first, so there he made his “Oh My Gosh” entry in a Red convertible Lamborghini, raising the standards of boyfriend material for girls. Men really do have it hard as well.

Poo’s Narcissism and Self Love

Racism in Pardes? What is that? Whole of London was crazy over Poo a.k.a Pooja (Kareena Kapoor). Unlike others she didn’t believe in the guy being good at heart, taking care of her or for that matter was rich, all she cared about was  just three basic things good looks, good looks, and good looks.

She wasn’t just an epitome of beauty, but of narcissism as well, after all as she says to herself in the mirror ‘How dare you? Tumhe koi haq nahi banta ki tum itni Khoobsurat dikho, Not fair’.

‘Chandu Ke Chacha’ played an important role in the Movie

Bet you had tried this tongue twister several times post the movie was out and even dared your friends with the same? Didn’t you? Coming to the movie, If Rohan would not have quoted ‘Chandu k chacha ne chandu ki Chachi ko Chandni raat mein Chandni chowk pe Chandi k chammach se chutney chatai’, Poo could have never recognized him and Rohan’s plan for reuniting his family would have never worked? Raichands should definitely thank Chandu k chacha who got them back or else well they would have still lived happily without any added bonus of melodrama.

Anjali knows how to deal with her nosy neighbors

No matter if it is Chandni Chowk or London, Anjali knew how to deal with her nosy neighbors in her own slaying desi style. Remember how she teases Mrs. Sprightly when she came to leave her daughter at Anjali’s? Well if you don’t? Then go watch it RIGHT NOW!
